WE DOING THIS HERO BULLSHIT AGAIN?
I'm a functioning mess but I still got up, didn't I?

BACKGROUND

Persona 4: A Different Side

Yua Narukami was not always a typical Japanese young woman. While she did learn essential skills such as cleaning and cooking, it was due to her parents always working and it was a way to take care of herself. She had always been more on the blunt side, using common sense to question certain things and yet be the strange but also 'cool' girl that kept transferring schools every time her parents moved. She loved them dearly but for once, she wouldn't have minded staying in one city for at least a year. So when her parents learned they would be overseas, they decided to send Yua to her uncle and cousin in a small mountain town called Yasoinaba. Now most of the Persona 4 storyline was the same on Yua's end: the Gas Station Attendant greeting her, the dungeon running and saving her soon to be friends and social links but there were a few differences between her world and other versions: for one, Yua was the kind of girl who thought with common sense. She wasn't the type to go eating things she shouldn't be eating nor was she one to sugar coat the truth.

Yua was made leader of the newly formed Investigation Team but there were some concerns about it. Her partner and soon to be best friend, Yosuke Hanamura was unsure at first how to handle being led by a girl but not because he thought of her as weak. In fact, their first meeting involved her throwing a trashcan off him so he knew she was far from it but that she someone kept a level head despite all the shit happening. In other words, he was jealous but honestly, Yua didn't seem to care about it because meh, shit happens and people have actual goddamn emotions. Another example was how Yua handled situations such as Teddie's constant flirting and the mention of scoring. While the girls were pretty annoyed and rightfully so, it was Yua that sat the bear down and gave him The Talk. It was enough to scare the crap out of him and a relief to most of the girls. Some minor differences did occur such as sports: Yua ran on the Track Team and her link was Yumi instead of the Drama Club and it was Kou who ran that particular club instead. As the investigation got a little stranger, Yua did learn that her uncle did convince his partner, Tohru Adachi to 'keep an eye' on her. But she somehow always managed to give him the slip when the group needed to run into Junes to the TV World. But once they learned the bumbling detective was the one who was behind the murders, Yua faced him head on within his own piece of the TV World, including stabbing him in the hand with a large piece of glass for degrading and belittling her while bound from his persona's own attacks. Facing a death goddess however was another story...

Liminal Space and Emptiness: Syndiporia

As she was on the train back to Tokyo, Yua found herself falling asleep and arriving in a oddity called Liminal Space with several others. They were brought together by beings called Drumpfs to help them help other worlds but during one world trip, Yua lost that innocence that she once held even after defeating Izanami. Moebius was a prison, its caretakers horrid and even put on shows to show their depravity. The only way to end it all was to kill those who ran the complex...and it was on a time limit. If they were unable to end it before time was up, it would reset and the Travelers would have to do it all over again. And to take place to the caretakers were Travelers who believed to be a part of the world. During this, Yua was tortured and dissected alive; the Y-Shaped vivisection scar used for corpses and slashes all over her torso being the grim reminders of the horror she faced. Along the way, it was Yua who killed a version of herself, Souji Seta, and it would be the final piece that would separate the two's friendship. But it was Belljar Island, a setting where the group decided to admit failure due to unrest from the natives and the Travelers themselves: Those who agreed to admit it, vanished. Yua was one of them.

Yua arrived back to the group after getting out of her own dungeon by herself. She was more reserved and quiet, tending to keep to herself with a couple exceptions: Armin was a decent kid and a version of the Inaba Murders culprit, Tohru Adachi ('Herodachi') who took her place in his world as a Wild Card. She formed a kinship with the man, both being the 'strange ones' within the Wild Card and Persona circle because Adachi was always the villain in the universes and Yua the only protagonist from Inaba who was a woman. She started to refind her footing within the Labyrinthe Shoals while infiltrating as a former mermaid captain leading a group of refugees to a safe haven from their blood thirsty Empress. But when the group headed to Austin, Texas, Yua found herself thrown into another dungeon. But when she got out this time...it hardened her heart and began her descent into Emptiness. No one came for her again...she pulled herself out of the darkness and Yua was starting to get tired of it.

It was this that Yua began to lash out, starting to get distant from her fellow 'teammates' and Souji. During a jaunt to a high school named Doki Doki, her ire for Souji grew when he stole her first kiss and admitted about his crush to her thanks to seeing a red string of fate, usually reserved for lovers. Yua was rightfully disgusted and punched him right between the eyes for stealing such a thing but during this, she befriended another Wild Card protagonist, Minako Arisato, who became a good friend and sister figure. It seemed Yua was starting to feel better about herself...that is until the next trip into a place called The Grid. A world that seemed to be inside a computer, Yua was clueless on what to do or how to act, therefore stayed out of sight and quiet most of the time. The one time when she did notice something off, she ended up meeting one of the archtypes of the Arcana, or Drumpfs named ROSE. In order for information, ROSE wanted her to be one of her 'pawns'. Reluctantly Yua agreed but ROSE really didn't pull on her end of the deal. This made Yua furious and her trust in the Drumpfs decreased. She also gained respect points for Minako and Adachi while shunning Souji after his infiltator self flirted with her and asked her out on a date. Adachi offered to cut off his balls while Minako yelled at him.

It wasn't until after the Grid that Yua started to lose her hope, the spark that gave her the edge in defeating Izanami. It wasn't until Adachi being the first (and only) one to notice of her descent, that he tells her "Don't go empty on me" due to his own experiences of his world's version of Souji named Seito taking his role as the villain, Yua showing resemblance to his twin sister Seiki who perished in a car crash when she was five. While she would keep in contact with various folks such as Naoki Koinishi, a man named Alcuin, and Armin, she usually kept them at arms length in fear of if she got close, they would vanish. Unlike Souji and a version of Kanji, her Wild Card powers only were good if she made a bond corresponding to an arcana, granting her a persona. But once the person vanished, the bond was gone along with the persona. But then she met another version of Souji who was quiet but felt more like the big brother type. This was more emphiasized when the Travelers were sent to Purgatory and Yua and the two Soujis were infiltrating as triplets in various factions. Souji 1 was an angel named 'Narukami', Souji 2 being a demon named 'Kingpin', and Yua being a sithen (half-angel half demon who refused to fight and remain neutral) who helped run a bar with Naoki's infiltrated self. While the 'siblings' didn't get along, Yua and Kingpin seemed to squabble more and when he ambushes her, she tells him that she wanted to protect him despite her neutrality. By choosing a side in her mind meant losing a brother and despite their fights and chances, Yua refused to sever her bond with her brothers. She loved them both but it was Kingpin/Souji the one whom she seemed to want to look out for more, to watch over him.

It was her sithen self and the woman later on named Captain Phoenix that made Yua realize about the roles she was always in: they all wanted freedom just like her. Being tired of being pulled around and forced to play a game she wanted no part in, she was teetering close to the edge. And with Souji 2 vanishing, she almost fell off as she finally told Souji 1 why she was having issues with him: her murder of him back in Moebius. Believing he deserved better at first, her thoughts quickly changed when her mind translated his words to seeing how Empty she was becoming and not doing a damn thing about it. Screaming in fury, their link was reversed and when Adachi vanished after dealing with vampire, werewolves, and crazy politics, Yua also vanished from Liminal Space. However, she wasn't placed in a dungeon for the third time but rather an entirely different universe.

Differences between Yua's story and the 'canon' version:

~Experienced Eureka. Chose to sacrifice Eijika and got into an argument with Krile about loss. It was so bad that Krile ended up accidentally seeing all of Yua's horrible memories of her time in Inaba and Liminal Space, including Moebius. She has not discussed the contents as of the end of Shadowbringers.

I Am The Shadow, I Am The Light: Shadowbringers

Differences between Yua's story and the 'canon' version:

~Before MSQ started, trained with the DNC troupe until level 65 and Yua in anger broke away from them due to how they approached the issues. At level 70, there is a Dance Off Fight where Yua unknowingly uses Creation Magic to summon the Investigation Team along with Minako and Herodachi and uses the dances based off their skills and Jobs to defeat Nashmeira and Ranaa.
~Secretly had a thing with Emet-Selch.
~Does not consider Exarch as her friend and just an obligation for Lyna.
~Shoved Exarch's soul into the Wind Up Mystel and woke up Source!G'raha and gives him the meaning of choice.
~After the fight with Innocence, Yua screamed at Exarch "YOU ARE A FUCKING COWARD, G'RAHA TIA!" and got so pissed off with Emet that due to extreme stress, she summoned Izanagi and went a bit feral.
~Kept the stones for Emet, Elidibus, and Lahabrea with her.
~One version does have Yua save Emet and Elidibus and she currently hides them.

PERSONALITY

Yua is a bit of a mixed bag. She can be kind and considerate to her friends in one moment but in the next, she can lash out an insult that even a sailor would question. It's not just due to her experiences back in Inaba but also how Liminal Space and the Source has shaped her view. She is still someone who helps others, has to manage her own time doing everything under the sun, save the universe, and try to be an overall good person. She's someone who is tired of the responsibilities of being the one who is called to help, to save people...and yet, she does it without much complaint to anyone. She can freely admit to people that she can be a bitch but also be the same person who would make you tea and food in order to take care of yourself.

Upon first meeting, Yua is all sorts of sass and honest. If something is weird or off, she will speak upfront about it. It's partly why she doesn't speak up so much during important political meetings unless needed; no one wants to hear her thoughts on certain subjects. Usually with a quip on her tongue, Yua can come off as brash but in reality, this is a defense mechanism. It's her own strange way of trying not to let the horrible feelings take over her. To say Yua has baggage is an understatement but when people let her know whenever she crosses a line, she does try to look at the situation and try to compromise and fix it. She's not above anything and she knows it and so she can set it aside to do what's right. It's in her right to tell someone to rightfully fuck off but she usually backs it up with why she believes as such. She's brutally honest when it comes to the wire for the most part and she will call out someone if she believes they are acting wrong. Just ask Y'shtola; she's earned a few tonguelashings from Yua due to her aethersight and her behavior after the fight with one of the Warring Triad, Sophia. But she doesn't do it to be rude, it's a genuine act of kindness due to Yua's own experiences and seeing the bigger picture. If it wasn't for the kid's actions beforehand, there would have been a higher chance people would have been hurt or killed.

Despite her roughness at first, Yua truly does care about people. Usually putting others before herself, she makes herself ready for what needs to be done to help. Need help making food or tending to wounded or offer her mount as a way? She offers willingly. The downside to this is that while others are moved and happy by her deeds, she herself does not think much on self care or her own wants. She doesn't sleep as well or forgets to eat at times due to work or Scion duties and always needs a reminder to take care of herself. But whenever she tries to do so, some kind of disaster usually happens and only she can solve the problem. But this too is also a double edged sword: when she takes care of others, her own needs are tossed to the side. It's something she's been noticing since going to Ishgard and why during Heavensward and Stormblood that she feels disconnected from the Archons: they didn't see her as comrades and friends like Alphinaud and Alisaie did. It began to gnaw away at her as she questioned her time in the organization and overall wondering if she honestly belonged.

To put it bluntly, or in her words, Yua refers to herself as either 'someone the gods decided to shit on constantly' or a 'functioning mess'. It's because of her experiences in Liminal Space that gives her this numbing and horrible mindset, unable to really see genuine acts of kindness directed at her as such because there's always been some sort of catch to it all. Oh she can stay in a place but can she please do some errands and kill this primal in exchange? Given that the Drumpfs (she refuses to use Arcana because they are not nice people) only see them as pawns in a game and are the biggest culprits in this exchange, it's no wonder why Yua feels as such. A good example of how Yua's mindset works is shown in Shadowbringers and how her interactions between two of the men with power color her mindset: the paragon named Emet-Selch and the keeper of the Crystal Tower calling himself the Crystal Exarch. One who is harsh and blunt but cannot stand to see the people as who they are due to his own past and one always willing to help her out. It would be assumed that Yua would go towards the Exarch more because of how welcoming he has been and how he's given her all the tools to help him save the First. However, it's because of this kindness that Yua is leery. Someone who has only been shown kindness rarely and when someone does, it's more or less 'hey i'll be nice to you if you do this for me'. Someone who has been kicked in the dirt more times prior to her adventures in Eorzea and let's be real, Liminal Space and her adventures in Eorzea fucked with her mindset badly.

Unfortunately, the Exarch has done several things that makes Yua very leery of him. When she reaches out to get to know him, he shuts her down except for the last leg of the race so to say. And when he reveals himself to be G'raha Tia, even while in pain, she manages to call him a fucking coward. As someone who was tortured and murdered, she feels that if he had spoken out, he would not have had to suffer his own torture by Emet-Selch's hands. Not to mention the whole sacrificing himself bit hit very close to home like her friends did back in the TV World and Yua was forced to watch as Izanami dragged each of them down to Hell.

Despite how they were on opposite sides, Yua felt like she could actually talk like a normal person around Emet-Selch. He might have been a giant prick and have his thoughts on mortality, Yua knew that he always spoke the truth. When she had a question, he always answered truthfully compared to the Exarch. When he had asked if she had ever seen under the cowl, it makes her question a little bit. When Emet talks about Amaurot and how she wouldn't remember it, it makes her curious. Even after Yua failed to hold in all that Light (again, THANKS EXARCH) and Emet is disgusted with her, she still manages to talk shit back at him because if he wants truth, she'll give it back. Even on opposite sides, Yua respected Emet up until the end and refused to hold back because doing so would show a sign of disrespect.

"PvP me in the pit, motherfucker!"

Yua is always willing to give new things a try. If she doesn't know it, she will try to learn. It ties in with her being able to manage her time wisely given all she did in Inaba from tutoring to after school clubs to even part time jobs while trying to solve the overall mystery of the Inaba Murders and Kidnappings. If she fails, she refuses to give in and just keeps on trying until she gets some kind of mileage. With trying new things comes patience; the patience to wait for things to come and not to bum rush most of the time.

But for all her triumphs and daring do, Yua is still very much a young woman who came from a modern time period. She's prone to using slang and sometimes lewd sayings but despite them, Yua herself is not much of a sexual creature. Unlike her other versions who could possibly date all the women under the sun, Yua herself chose not to go that route. When Yosuke confessed he had feelings for her, she turned him down and said that their bond was more like siblings. Yua doesn't crave it but she won't turn it away if she's interested; she just hasn't found someone she honestly likes.

ABILITIES

Wild Card: Persona

As a wild card, Yua can summon parts of her soul for battle known as personas. They vary between and she can only summon one if she makes a strong bond known as a Social Link. While in the XIV universe, she cannot use her personas but the Wild Card modified itself in the form of Jobs and how many she can use. Most of the time. If Yua's life is in extreme danger, it is possible for the power to manifest but it also depends on what bonds she has made within the universe. The Master List of Personae Yua can call upon can be seen here.

The Echo

A special power that grants the user the ability to 'see' within someone's soul by the form of memories. This cannot be controlled, only triggered and they can vary. Yua like most with the Echo can feel dizzy or pass out if the memory is strong enough. Is also known as the Blessing of Light. With the Echo, she can also understand languages even if she doesn't realize they are speaking another tongue.

Yua's signature effect of the Echo is that she can pick up any Soul Crystal and learn the Job associated with it. However, it is only the basics she can grasp instantly and must work and train to use them well. A more modified version of her Wild Card power.

JOBS:

-NINJA: A Job in which the user handles two daggers and deals in stealth, preferring to hide in shadows and attack from behind rather than up front. Ninjas deal with several Mudras in which the user can summon fire around them, lightning in another and up to winds to increase attack speed. Ninjas also possess the ability to summon a large frog that spits out fire.

-SAMURAI: A melee who uses katanas as their weapon of choice. Samurai are supposed to be serene, peaceful, and fight for their lords and for the good of their country but unfortunately Yua isn't really the type to call someone 'Master'. Using Sen, she is able to send out much more powerful cuts and attacks that can either damage over time, use a powerful AoE, or buff her stats temporary and send out a powerful cut.

-RED MAGE: A Jack of All Trades, a Master of None. A red mage is someone who can use both white and black mana at once, using their own aether, making it limited. However, unlike the schools of Amdapor and Mhachi, red mages use rapiers along with a jewel to help cast spells. They can heal and Raise like White Mages as well as send thunder and fire like those of the Black.

-ASTROLOGIAN: The astrologian is a Healer by trade, mainly focused on using various cards to create buffs depending on the ones drawn. Using the star globe as their weapon of choice, along with two different 'sects' in which various skills are applied, an astrologian can be dangerous to their enemies. Or in Yua's case, using said star globe like a folding chair and bashing her enemies. Do not do this at home kids.

-BLACK MAGE: Unlike the other Caster classes of Summoner and Red Mage, Black Mages deal with raw magic, mainly Fire and Ice spells with the occasional Thunder or Scathe through a traditional staff whether its one or two handed. Depending on the level of spell (1, 2, 3, or 4 with Enochian), massive damage can be dealt. However, this also makes them like a glass cannon in which they can be a bit squishy, Unless they hit you with a Xenoglossy.

-WHITE MAGE: Another user of staves but unlike their counterparts of the Black, White Mages use the elements of water, wind, and earth to fend off enemies as well as spells for healing properties. Their usage of Holy can hit multiple enemies at once as well as Stun them along with Asylum being able to create a bubble of healing and Assize to help restore mana and health while hitting the enemy.

-SCHOLAR: A healer who uses a fairy to help out in battle. While the Scholar can heal using spells, they are also known for their shield abilities to reduce damage taken. They also can cause damage over time with simple spells such as poisoning the enemy as well as remove any aliments to the party.

-SUMMONER: Summoners having bathed in the aether of primals (by fighting them) can summon smaller versions called 'egis' to fight alongside with them. Uses tomes as their weapon. Only one egi or carby can be out at a time.

-BARD: Using bows and arrows as well as instruments, Bards boost and support their comrades by means of songs which can helpp boost attack, magic, speed, and even remove debuffs depending on the situation.

-DANCER: Dancers are fighters who can move gracefully and dance to buff their allies and destroy their enemies. Using chakrams, the dancer uses particular dance steps to not only buff members in their party but also cause damage to the enemy in the area. If enough Esprit is built up, the dancer can use a powerful AoE attack called Saber Dance. Due to the fallout between the troupe and Yua, she has managed to make her own dance styles based off Jobs she does know such as Nin/Rog, Monk and Dragoon.

EXTRA

~Yua is unable to sleep on her own most of the time. She needs the help of a sleeping draught, a friend close by, or be extremely tired.

~Yua can manage her time well.

~Most facets of crafting and gathering she offers as her business. The only one she doesn't is Fishing. More personal.

~Her business is called '1000 Needles and Thread'

~She uses glamour prisms on her skin to hide the various scars from Liminal Space.

~Yua refuses to have strangers heal her; it must be her, Krile, or Alphinaud (in the most extreme cases). This is due to her experience in Moebius and how doctors harmed more than healed.

~While she can use Magic and War Classes, Yua prefers Dancer but a close second are all the Casting classes. While Yua can heal, she's more known to use offensive spells than healing.

~Favorite mount is the mikoshi because somehow she can call namazu buddies to help her out.

~Yua can change Jobs by snapping her fingers and saying the phrase 'Switch!'. There's usually a sound of breaking glass as a sign of the Wild Card power. She cannot however switch Jobs while in battle.

~There is only one NPC that get Yua to 'Aggro Ping' AKA immediate Anger towards: G'raha Tia. Because of his almost killing her twice, lying to her about his plans, and the idolizing of who she is as an ideal rather than a person, Yua does not take kindly to him as well as what he does triggers her CPTSD. She usually leaves the room if she's alone with him because she rather not try to do bodily harm because he's still needed for his royal blood. As of Endwalker's end, they're on civil terms. Still got a lot to work on but there's not as much screaming.

~Yua has much respect for her first trainer, Jacke. When she was starting out and less concerned of her own life, it was him who snapped her out of purposely stepping into a dangerous attack. Because he did this and didn't coddle her, Yua formed the idea to live in order to spite the Powers That Be. She'll die on her terms when she's ready to do it.

~Yua doesn't have much respect for Nashmeira and Ranaa because they say they want to do change and good but never really acts on it. This sets a rift between them in the 65 DNC quest with Yua challenging them to a dance battle (actual battle) and calling them out on how they don't take notice of the problems many people do have and how if one wants to help out, they need to understand their audience first. As of Endwalker's end, they begin to talk things out and take Yua's words to heart with Ranaa traveling around the world as an adventurer.
